How to convert WEBP to JPG

Turn a WEBP image into a JPG that more apps, editors and older software can open. It runs in your browser and converts several images at once.

Updated . Tested step by step on this tool.

WEBP to JPG converts WEBP images, the format many websites use for smaller photos, into JPG, which almost every photo app, editor and printer can open. It runs entirely in your browser.

What you need

  • One or more WEBP images, up to 100 MB each.

Converting several files at once

Add more than one WEBP file and each one converts to its own JPG, keeping its own file name with a new extension. This is different from the image-to-PDF tools, which combine multiple files into one document: here, every input file produces its own separate output file, and the ZIP button just bundles those separate files together for a single download.

Choosing a quality setting

The default of 92 percent is a good balance for most photos. Drop it toward 60 to 70 percent for a smaller file when you are sending several images by email or message, and keep it near 100 for a photo you plan to print or edit further, where compression artifacts would show.

Tips

  • Keep transparency? Use WEBP to PNG. JPG has no transparency, so a transparent area becomes white.
  • Converting a photo from an iPhone instead? That is usually HEIC, not WEBP; see HEIC to JPG.
  • Putting the JPGs into a PDF next? Use Images to PDF once you have converted them.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I need to convert a WEBP image?

WEBP is common on websites because it is small, but not every photo editor, printer, or older program can open it. Converting to JPG makes the picture usable almost everywhere.

What does the quality slider do?

It sets the JPEG compression, from 60 to 100 percent. Higher keeps more detail and makes a larger file; lower makes a smaller file with more visible compression, especially in photos with fine detail.

Can I convert several WEBP images at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; each becomes its own JPG file, and a "Download all as a ZIP" button appears when there is more than one, so you are not clicking Download over and over.

Will the image dimensions change?

No. The JPG comes out at the same width and height as the original WEBP. Only the file format and, if you lower the slider, the JPEG compression change.

Does a transparent WEBP convert cleanly?

JPG has no transparency, so any transparent area in the WEBP is filled with white in the JPG. If you need to keep transparency, use WEBP to PNG instead.
