Chasing a signed copy back by email adds a day to every job. When you can sign invoices and estimates online, your client confirms the work right from the link you already sent them, and you get a timestamped record without printing anything.
The signature lives on the document itself, drawn by hand on screen rather than typed or uploaded from another program. It sits next to whatever else your client can do on that link, so approving an estimate, asking a question and signing it can all happen in the same visit instead of three separate emails.
How it works
- Send the link. Share the invoice or estimate link with your client the way you normally reach them.
- They open it. No separate app is needed, and they are not asked to sign in.
- They sign. Your client draws their signature with a mouse, trackpad or finger, then enters their name and email address.
- You see the result. The signed document shows the signature image, the signer's name and when they signed.
Why sign online instead of by hand
- No printing or scanning. The signature happens on the same screen where your client already reviewed the total.
- A clear record. The name, email address and timestamp travel with the document, not in a separate email you have to keep track of.
- Works on estimates too. A client can sign an estimate to confirm they accept it, separately from approving or declining it.
- One less follow-up. You are not waiting on a printed copy to come back before the job starts.
What a signature does not do
A signature on the Invoice Generator confirms that a specific person agreed to a specific document at a specific time. It is not a notarized signature, and it is not legal advice about when a signature is required for your kind of work or your state. For anything with real legal weight, such as a contract that goes beyond the price of a job, check with someone qualified before relying on this instead.
Who uses it
Signatures matter most where a written yes protects both sides: contractors and trades starting a job, consultants agreeing to scope before billing hours, photographers confirming a booking, and any freelancer who wants a client's confirmation on file before work begins. See estimate vs. quote vs. invoice for when a signed estimate makes more sense than a signed invoice.

Works with the rest of the Invoice Generator
Signing sits alongside the rest of the shared document: your client can also leave a comment, approve or decline an estimate, and pay an invoice through a Stripe payment link if you have added one. Read how to write an invoice for what to put on the document before you send it for a signature.
