Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
What it means
Federal law passed in 1970 (with major updates in 2003) that governs how credit bureaus collect, keep, and share consumer credit information. The FCRA gives you the right to see your credit file, dispute errors, have outdated information removed, and sue for damages when someone violates your rights.
